Riding ability: (?)
Suitable for: non-riders families

"Great accommodation for us and the horses. Great food, brilliant routes and back up. Thank you."- Helen Douglas
Cranborne Chase is designated as an area of outstanding beauty; up until 150 years ago it was a private forest with it's own laws. The region is criss crossed by Roman roads, old drove roads and ancient earthworks. Parts of it still seem very remote, and the terrain and the rides are really varied including steep hills of 3-400 ft woodland and open, rolling country with wide views and big skies. There's plenty of fast riding and few gates or roads.
We offer 2, 3 and 4-day back-to-start rides plus a choice of one-centre holidays near Cranborne, Rockbourne and at Sutton Mandeville, which is on the boundary between the Cranborne Chase and Great Ridge networks. The area is good for mountain biking.

If you only want a short ride on arrival or before you go home, you can do a 7.5 mile circuit out along the Romano-British ramparts of Bokerley Dyke and back via Pentridge Hill and the Iron Age fort on Penbury Knoll.
The regular 14.5 mile petal ride, which is recommended, includes an additional loop along a Roman Road through the woods on Vernditch Chase, which is particularly lovely in late April and May when the bluebells and wild garlic are flowering. You then follow the Ox Drove, a prehistoric ridgeway with fine views over the Ebble valley to the north, and (on a clear day) the New Forest and Isle of Wight to the south.
8 or 15 miles with lunch stop.
