York

"Just wanted you to know how much we all enjoyed our holiday with you. The advice for cyclists and horses together made for a great holiay for us all. Thank you."- Tom Wheeler

York WoldsYou'll be spoilt for choice in the Yorkshire Wolds as there is so much on the doorstep. Take in the awesome magnificence of York Minster, the heritage of Fairfax House or the grandeur of York city.

The market towns of Malton, Pickering and Helmsley are a stones throw away and stately homes such as Castle Howard, Duncombe Park and Sledmere House are close by. Historians will love all the museums on offer such as the Yorkshire Air Museum, the National Railway Museum, The Jorvik Centre, Ryedale Folk Museum, York Castle Museum and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.

Of course, there's lots of wonderful places to ride too. There are plenty of opportunities for long canters in the countryside and gentle hacks through gorgeous villages with grand manor houses. And when you decide to take a break out of the saddle you can enjoy the sunshine with a stroll around The Walled Garden at Scampston or take in some sea air at the seaside towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey or Robin Hood Bay.

The Yorkshire Wolds is a diamond shaped network extending East from Malton and Stamford Bridge across a large chalk plateau to Driffield, and South to Pocklington.

The Northern and Eastern half has gentler terrain while the South West is hillier and slightly more wooded, with a greater profusion of the steep sided dry dales for which this area is famous. Because the underlying rock is chalk, which is porous, it is good for horses that don't like water - although you will see plenty of clay-lined dewponds, which were built to collect dew and rainwater for livestock (and humans!) to drink. Although there is some livestock, the Wolds is a predominantly arable area - so there aren't many gates, and the gentler terrain in the East is also good for mountain biking.

We can offer 2-day, 3-day and 4-day trail rides, and there's a choice of one-centre holidays with a choice of day-rides. The network is generally good for mountain biking, although there are a few more hills in the South and West.

The hosts are warm and friendly and will provide you with a hearty breakfast. Evening meals are also provided at a local pub. Accommodation is in first class farmhouses or luxury B&Bs with 4* silver quality assurance.

Your horse is taken good care of too with secure grazing and prices include feed and hay.
