Wansdyke

"Everyone was really friendly and helpful. Accommodation for us and the horses was excellent. The routes were brilliant. Thank you." Sophie Adams.

WansdykeThis network extends across the chalk ridge country around Marlborough and Savernake Forest in Wiltshire as far east as Inkpen Hill and the chalk downs along the Wiltshire /Hampshire border. The Kennet valley and the Vale of Pewsey run east-west across the network area, with canals, lush water meadows and pretty villages that make a complete contrast with the chalk downs to the north and south. The downs are littered with ancient earthworks, sarsen stones and Bronze Age barrows and, in the west of the network, you can ride through Avebury stone circle, which is 5,000 years old. The going is generally good with long, grassy canters over the downs contrasting with gentle farmland and hidden valleys.

We offer a choice of between 2 and 6 place to place trail rides that return to the start. We also offer a selection of one-centre holidays with multiple rides and a fabulous 7 day place to place linear route.

Excursion options:

  • Stonehenge
  • Marlborough
  • New Forest
  • Avebury
  • Bath

This historic ride takes you from Ramsbury, a once important Saxon and medieval place to Vernham Dean in Hampshire, via Great Bedwyn and the Kennet and Avon canal. There are a number of diversions along the way, including a pub and Ramsbury Manor. It also takes in part of what used to be Savernake Forest, part of which was designed by Capability Brown. Indeed there is still a 3 mile long avenue of beach and oak trees. Another draw to this ride is a visit to a Tudor cottage used by Henry VIII to woo Jane Seymour, his third and best loved wife.

BreakfastA 18.75 mile ride with a pub-stop at 10.5 miles with a longer ride if wanted along the way.
