Rutland

"I must be honest, at first I thought it was expensive for B&B, then I realised it's so much more than that and to do it alone would take forever. So much goes in to making it happen - the horse accommodation, meals, routes, the guides, maps, luggage ferries, the back up and much more. I was wrong. It's excellent value for money." Jackie Worral

RutlandThe Rutland riding is one of the UKs best kept secrets. The riding is extensive with wide opportunities for fast riding on grassy canter tracks including the classic hunting country north of Market Harborough. The south has a smaller scale landscape dotted with lovely villages of stone and thatch - a bit like the Cotswolds, but with gentler hills and again plenty of long canters. This is a mixed farming area with both livestock and arable and beautiful flower filled meadows. It is suitable for mountain biking and families. The riding is almost exclusively off road.

We have wonderful 4 day rides around the high Leicestershire Wolds into the Vale of Belvoir, and a wide range of options from 2 to 9 days' place-to-place trail riding. We also have a number of one centre and multiple centre holidays in Rutland.

Rutland was first recognised as a Shire County in 12th Century, it has a rich history with the opportunity to visit some beautifully preserved Churches.

Other excursions include:

  • Rutland water
  • Rockingham Castle
  • Burghley House
  • Launde Abbey

RutlandA one day petal ride to Ilston, Glooston and Cranoe of 17.75 miles with two pub stops along the way. You pick up the Midshires Way and follow it south to the remote village of Cranoe before heading west to the first pub at Glooston.

RutlandAfter lunch you follow the Roman Via Devana (now known as the Gartree Road) for several miles to Carlton Curlieu Manor before following an ancient trackway northwards though a Saxon settlement, continuing past Rolleston Hall through the thriving village of Tugby returning to East Norton Hall. Part of this ride is along a fairly major ford on the Roman Road and water levels can vary from a few inches to a foot deep! The riding is varied here but mostly off-road.
