Vallambrosa Trail

During this trail you will visit the forest of Vallombrosa, one of the finest and most complete forest ecosystems in Tuscany where you will visit the imposing Abbey of Vallombrosa. You will climb up to 1450m taking in the magnificent scenery and admiring villages, castles and churches along the way. This is a 7 night holiday staying 5 nights at the centre and 2 nights at farmhouses or villas along the way.

Saturday:

Arrival and dinner at the centre.

Sunday:

Start with a lesson in the schooling arena followed by a 2 hour hack in the surrounding countryside.

Monday and Tuesday:

Ride out to the surrounding hills and return to the centre for dinner.

Wednesday to Friday:

On Wednesday you leave on the trek, riding all day long and carrying lunch in your saddle bag.  You ride through the Chianti vineyards, reaching the forest of Consuma in the afternoon. Spend the night at Podernuovo situated in the mountain forests at the Napoleonic villa of a local composer and conductor. On Thursday you will climb large windy meadows to the peak of the Pratomagno (altitude 1450m) to admire the spectacular sights of Tuscany. Visit the impressive Abbey of Vallombrosa (dated from 1008). Ride back to Podernuovo through the heart of a forest rich in plants and animals with some of Europe’s highest trees (Douglasie).  On Friday trek back to the centre stopping to picnic and swim in a lake.

Accommodation: shared rooms (2-4 people per room), shared bathroom between 2 rooms, full board including wine.  Private rooms at the centre carry a supplement of £55 for a double & £125 for a single for the week.  A party of 5 can share one room for a small discount.
