Monte Giovi Trail

The Monte Giovi is a mountain range in the vicinity of Florence, one of the most spectacular beauty spots in Tuscany. It is a national park with an altitude of 982 metres.  Monte Giovi is very dear to the Florentines thanks to its extraordinary natural beauty and its history. This is a seven night, six day ride staying 5 nights at the centre and 2 nights at farmhouses along the way.

Saturday:

Arrival and dinner at the riding centre.

Sunday:

Start with a lesson in the schooling arena, followed by a 2 hour hack in the surrounding countryside.

Monday and Tuesday:

Ride out to the surrounding hills and return to the centre for dinner.

Wednesday to Friday:

On Wednesday you leave on the trek, riding all day long and carrying lunch in your saddle bag. You will spend the night in an inn situated in the mountain forests. Pass through Chianti vineyards and follow the River Sieve (forging it twice) past the famous wine village of Rufina.  You will climb to the top of the mountain (982m) range along age-old wooded paths, reaching the top with its breath-taking views of the surrounding Chianti, Arno & Murgello valleys.

Trek back down to the centre through relatively unknown countryside, visiting the villa and chapel of Petroio, a tiny, perfectively conserved 12th century hamlet and eat your last picnic on the banks of a fresh-water lake.

Accommodation: shared rooms (2-4 people per room), shared bathroom between 2 rooms, full board including wine.  Private rooms at the centre carry a supplement of £55 for a double & £125 for a single for the week.  A party of 5 can share one room for a small discount.
